How to Grow an Online Business that Grows When You're Not Working?
You do not need a big following to grow an online fitness business. You need a clear offer, a low-ticket front-end that turns strangers into buyers, and a repeatable system for inviting those buyers into higher-level work. I built to seven figures with roughly 1,200 Instagram followers by selling offers priced from $9 to $10,000 — not by posting more or cold DMing 50 people a day.
Have you heard the saying, "when it rains, it pours"?
A couple of weeks ago I shared that we'd had the hardest summer of our life, with our daughter in the hospital. Then we got the news that my dad is sick. Because I have the privilege of working from home, I'll be his primary caregiver.
We're grieving. We also still have responsibilities, a mortgage, and a team.
The only reason both of those things can be true at the same time is the low-ticket lead system. It's how we build an email list of buyers — people who have already paid us something — and then invite those buyers to become clients. It's also the only way I dug out of $120,000 in debt without a massive ad budget.
That's not a flex. It's the point. A business that only runs when you're at full capacity isn't a business. It's a job with worse hours.
It took me five years online to hit seven figures, and that was after a decade of skills from being a district fitness manager. So here are the five lessons I wish someone had handed me on day one — none of which require a huge audience, a high-ticket-only model, or 50 cold DMs a day.
Nobody wakes up wanting a membership, a 12-week program, or 1:1 coaching. They want the fastest, most efficient route to the result they already decided they want.
If you can't say — in one sentence — which specific problem your program solves, for which specific person, to produce which specific outcome, people will not buy. Not because your coaching is bad. Because they can't tell what they're buying.
Here's what actually kept me vague for years, if I'm honest: I wanted to help moms lose weight after birth, but I was stressed about how I looked. What if I'm not fit enough to be a trainer? I was stressed about how colleagues would perceive me for talking about weight loss in a body-positive world.
So I softened everything. And soft offers don't sell.
You have to let that go and get clear on who you serve and how. Once you build offers good enough to sell themselves, you can create anything you want at any price point.
I had about 1,200 followers while consistently generating $20,000 to $50,000 a month. That was not all high-ticket. I ran a range of offers from $9 all the way up to $10,000.
Follower count is a vanity number. Buyer count is a business number.
Most coaches have this backwards. They spend a year trying to get to 10,000 followers so they can "finally" launch, when 300 of the right people who trust you and have bought something small from you will out-earn 10,000 passive scrollers every time.
When you nail your messaging and put the right offer in front of the right person at the right time, everyone wins. That's the whole equation. Audience size is the least important variable in it.
People love to buy. People hate to be sold to. Those are two different things, and most coaches conflate them, then hide.
If you're worried about coming off sleazy or annoying, here's what changes it:
Selling is a service. If your program works, staying quiet about it isn't humility — it's withholding. Make peace with that and you'll make a bigger impact.
Permission-based promotion only. Don't make offers without asking. "Want me to send you the details?" costs you nothing and changes the entire dynamic.
Listen, empathize, and take "no" for an answer. A clean no is a gift. It protects your energy and it protects your reputation.
Nothing in that list requires you to be louder. It requires you to be clearer.
If posting daily were a business strategy, we'd all be celebrating record months from a private jet.
Posting is an activity. A strategy tells you what to post, who it's for, what it's supposed to move someone toward, and what you do when it works. Without that, you're producing content and calling it marketing.
What you actually need is three things:
Strategy — the offer, the audience, and the path between them.
Structure — a front-end offer, an email list of buyers, and a clear invitation to go deeper.
Systems — the daily actions that run whether or not you feel inspired.
When those are in place, you stop guessing. You can look at a number, know which lever to pull, and get time back instead of adding more posting to your day. That's how I kept revenue coming in during a summer when I was barely at my desk.
There isn't a single million-dollar business that got there alone. Your business can't be built in a vacuum, because you cannot see your own blind spots — that's what makes them blind spots.
Support from a trusted mentor was the catalyst that took me from $10K years to $10K days. The right people don't just hand you tactics. They speak to your potential, name the thing you've been avoiding, and remove roadblocks you'd have spent two years bumping into.
The fastest way to shorten a five-year timeline is to borrow someone else's map.
Put those five lessons in order and you get a system, not a pile of tips:
A clear offer that solves one specific problem for one specific person.
A low-ticket front-end offer that converts strangers into buyers.
An email list made of buyers, not freebie collectors.
A permission-based invitation for those buyers to work with you at a higher level.
A daily system that runs on structure instead of motivation.
That's the low-ticket lead system. If you want the mechanics of it, I broke the whole model down in The Low-Ticket Lead System: How Online Coaches Sell Every Day Without Burnout.
If you're still deciding what to charge, start with how much to charge for online coaching.
And if Instagram is your main channel, here are the client acquisition strategies that actually work there.
Clients buy outcomes and speed, not program formats. If your offer isn't specific, it won't sell.
A following of 1,200 is enough to build a $20K–$50K month when the offer and messaging are right.
Selling ethically is a skill: permission-based promotion, real listening, and accepting "no."
Daily posting without strategy, structure, and systems is activity, not marketing.
Mentorship compresses timelines because it removes blind spots you can't see alone.
A low-ticket front-end builds a list of buyers, which is what keeps revenue steady when life gets hard.
I walk through this exact process — how to build a low-ticket lead system that brings in buyers daily — on a free live training. No high-ticket-only model, no cold DMs.

There is no follower threshold. I generated $20,000 to $50,000 per month with roughly 1,200 Instagram followers. What matters is how many people in your audience have a problem you solve, trust you enough to buy something small, and have been invited to work with you at a higher level.
No. A high-ticket-only model forces you to convert a tiny number of people at a high price, which usually means heavy outreach and sales calls. Running offers from $9 up to $10,000 lets people enter at their comfort level and buy their way up as trust builds.
A low-ticket lead system is a front-end offer priced low enough for a stranger to say yes quickly. It converts cold traffic into paying customers, builds an email list of buyers rather than freebie seekers, and creates a warm pool of people to invite into your premium program.
Treat selling as a service, ask permission before you pitch, listen more than you talk, and take "no" as a complete answer. Most of the discomfort coaches feel comes from pitching uninvited, not from selling itself.
No. I paid off $120,000 in debt without a large ad budget because a low-ticket front-end offer can fund its own traffic. When the front-end offer covers ad costs, you're acquiring buyers instead of spending down a budget.
It took me five years online to reach seven figures, on top of years of experience as a district fitness manager. The timeline shortens considerably with a clear offer, a working system, and a mentor who has already done it — most of my five years was spent solving problems someone could have solved for me in a week.
